This unit supports 6th Gen Intel Processors, has two DDR4-2133 DIMM Slots (Dual Channel, Max Capacity of 32GB), support for one PCI-Express 3.0 x16 and two PCI-Express 2.0 x1, has four SATA3 Ports, and sports a Intel I219V Gigabit Ethernet Controller. It has power connectors for one 24pin ATX (Main) and one 4pin ATX 12V. It also has four red LEDs in the bottom of the corners that serves as ambient lighting when it is powered up.

The first unit that Amazon sent me was a dud (one of the DIMM slots wasn’t working), though I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to get a replacement from them, Amazon’s CS team are very helpful and I got a proper replacement in no time.

I have paired this mobo with an Intel i3 6100 which clocks at 3.7GHz and sports the powerful HD 530 iGPU (with this I can game with DOTA 2 at 1080p with decent FPS, also with Hitman: Absolution at 720p — no discrete GPUs).

CPU Cooler: be quiet! Shadow Rock 2

For this Skylake build, an aftermarket cooler isn’t necessary because the components I picked have low power consumption and I’ve no plans of overclocking. But one look at this beast and it’s easy to understand why someone would spend a little bit extra to have is as a centrepiece. Weighing almost 1.5kg and standing at 160mm, it is way massive in person than what it looks like on your browser. It sports 51 aluminium cooling fins paired with four copper heatpipes, which is actively being cooled by a 120mm be quiet! SilentWings fan. The package includes mounting brackets for both Intel and AMD sockets, an ample amount of thermal paste and a lego-like aluminium wrench for securing the brackets in place.

For the RAM, I’ve gone with a pair of 4GB Vengeance LPX (dual channel). I could’ve gotten the 16GB kit but it would be buying excessively more than what I need. I currently don’t run any apps which demand (or would even utilise) 16GB of RAM. When I was buying this online I thought the covers were plastic, to my surprise the sticks are actually covered with gorgeous red aluminium heatspreaders – which goes perfectly well with the H110M’s colour theme.

These components pretty much sums up my core components for my hackintosh. Well, other than the GPU. At the moment I’m still contemplating whether to get a GTX 1060 3GB (since pascal cards are already supported by macOS) or stick with my plan of getting a pre-owned GTX 970.
